Fourth Grade Ages 9-10

Our fourth grade program is designed to expand the educational foundations that have already been established, while giving extra individual attention to those who need it. In phonics, we hope to increase your child’s love of reading and to teach him or her that the solution to many of life’s problems can be found in a book. By now, your child has learned to recognize hundreds of words. We will further that learning by introducing your child to poetry, autobiographies, non-fiction, and fiction and teaching him or her to ask questions as he or she reads. At this level, all work is done in cursive to help solidify the writing skills that were learned as a third grader. Our math program teaches the importance of rapid and accurate recall of basic math facts relating to addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Children will also be introduced to probability, graphing, and geometric shapes. Most importantly, our fourth graders will be taught in an environment that encourages self-reliance and accountability while establishing a desire to learn in all subjects that will serve children well in the years to come.
